Kearney Employee Spotlight with Dehkonti Paelay

“It has been the people at Kearney who invested their time and energy to support my professional growth and development.”

What is your favorite part about working for Kearney?

There are a number of reasons why I enjoy working for Kearney, but my top two favorites are: 1. The opportunity to see the firm grow and evolve while still staying true to the company’s culture; and 2. The ability to work on a diverse range of projects that have developed me, pushed me outside of my comfort zone and supported my career progression.

I have worked on various audits and consulting engagements during my career at Kearney. Each project afforded me an opportunity to learn something new, which contributed to me accomplishing some of my professional goals. I began my career at Kearney in 2005 and since then, a lot has changed (company size and location, policies, technology, and more). But at the end of the day, Kearney still has the same friendly and approachable environment.

How has Kearney been invested in the development of your career?

While trainings have been a great way for me to expand my technical background, it has been the people at Kearney who invested their time and energy to support my professional growth and development. Throughout my career I encountered challenges, and it was the guidance I received from trusted peers and leaders within Kearney that helped to influence decisions I made during those challenging times. They provided key feedback that helped to steer me in the right direction and empower me.

What are three things you cannot live without?

Three things I could not live without in no particular order are:

Barre Class – This is the only type of workout I have been able to commit to over the years and it gets the results I want.

Liberian Food – The BEST type of West African food…not that I’m biased or anything 🙂

Family and Friends – I seriously can’t live without their support or all the good times laughing.

If you were to host a dinner party, what three celebrity guests would you invite?

I feel like I may be judged for my dinner party celebrity list 🙂 but I think each of my three options would bring something interesting to dinner.

Mariah Carey – I have loved her since her first CD (Emotions) and I feel that she is true to who she is.

Trevor Noah – He is clever and hilarious which would bring a lively energy to the dinner party.

Oprah Winfrey – She started from humble beginnings and lives in her purpose.

What is been the biggest challenge of your career and how did you overcome it?

My biggest career challenge has been sometimes focusing too much on the next engagement or promotion and not fully focusing on my current engagement or position. While it has led me to my desired next steps and it also meant that I did not necessarily fully enjoy all the possibilities that my previous engagement or position had to offer. It’s a challenge that I’m still navigating through but the best way I have found to overcome it, is through reflection, patience and the understanding that each engagement and position offers a unique opportunity to grow, develop and evolve.
